Ionized Silver - 5 PPM

Ionized Silver, a powerful and soft antiseptic

Ionized silver 5 ppm is a tasteless (with somehow a slight bitter taste), flavourless and colourless solution. Ionized silver can be used orally or topically. Orally, it can be used as mouthwashes for minor mouth and gastro-intestinal infections. Topically, it can be spread by drops or sprayed on wounds, burns and sunburns.

Ionized Silver concentrated at 5 ppm is sufficient, efficient and safe.

Ionized silver 5 ppm is made in pure water. A concentration of 5 ppm of ionic Silver is sufficiently powerful, but at the same time soft and gentle on application. In fact, ionized silver is safe, not caustic, non irritant and doesn’t dry up the skin and others tissues when it is put on.

In history. Using silver to preserve food (as an antimicrobial agent) has been

known for centuries. Romans used silver to purify water and Venetians carried water, wine and vinegar in silver containers to help preserving liquids longer.

In XIXe and XXe centuries, other forms of silver (like salts, colloïds and proteins) appeared to be used as antibiotics to treat several types of infections, until World War II when they gradually disappeared with the emergence of antibiotics.

Recently. Then, the use of silver reappears in the 70’s with Dr. Becker’s work, in which bactericidal action of silver (released at anode under an electric current) was first highlighted in humans. Silver preparations were then used for several years to treat tissue ulcers; all silver compounds (including colloïds and free silver ions) have germicidal properties.

Mechanism of action. Since the 80’s, in vitro and in vivo research studies allowed scientist to identify how silver prevents infection and helps repairing damaged tissues. In fact, it is the release of free ionic form (Ag+) of silver, which is present in all silver forms (such as colloïds, metal nanocrystal, protein or salt) that crosses easily cell membranes where it reacts with prokaryotic microbial proteins and nucleic acids, that will in turn block enzyme functions, genetic information, protein synthesis, and the mechanisms for energy conservation; all these changes leading to the microbe’s death. By reducing the number of microbes and the inflammatory process that ensues in the affected area, this will result in improving the natural repair process of injuries by the immune system.

Nowadays, there is a reappearance of silver in all galenic forms reappears to treat wounds, burns, ulcers, etc…Silver’s action on these injuries is efficient to block microbial proliferation.

Ionized silver can also be used for many other purposes, like handling instruments such as catheters, invasive medical devices, cements bone implants, heart valves, surgical instruments, dental amalgams, and prosthesis. Finally, silver ion is also used in water purification systems to control microbes presence and prevent possible infections.

Medelaid
